Manchester United player ratings vs Juventus
Manchester United were completely outplayed on the night as Paulo Dybala’s 17th-minute strike marked a perfect return for Cristiano Ronaldo to the Old Trafford.
United didn’t see much of the ball in the opening stages of the game and Cristiano Ronaldo took advantage of some sloppy defending to fire in a cross from the right which was put away by Paulo Dybala to give the visitors the lead.
Juventus continued their stranglehold on the game and starved the Red Devils of the ball, putting together loads of passes in the midfield. United never really threatened to take the game by the scruff of the neck but came close in the second half as Paul Pogba’s long-range effort came back off the post.
It could have got worse for Jose Mourinho’s men had David De Gea not been at the top of his game and the Manchester United will have plenty to think about when they make the trip to Turin to face the Italian giants on the 7th of November.
Manchester United player ratings
David De Gea (7.5/10)
Another good day at the office for the Spaniard. Always a reliable presence between the sticks and saved United plenty of blushes with some top-quality saves.
Luke Shaw (5.5/10)
Was caught out several times by the pace of Juan Cuadrado and had no answer to Cristiano’s subtle movement down the flanks.
Victor Lindelof (6.5/10)
Perhaps had one of his best outings of the season. Solid and composed at the back and tracked back brilliantly at times to close down the attackers.
Chris Smalling (5/10)
Should have done more to keep Cuadrado at bay which ultimately led to Dybala’s goal. Didn’t look too confident at the back and lacked tactical awareness.
Ashley Young (5.5/10)
Entrusted with the daunting job of keeping Ronaldo at bay. Actually, he had no answer to the maestro’s brilliance and went into some rough challenges to deal with him; did not provide much in the other half.
Nemanja Matic (6/10)
Played as a sweeper for the back four and was successful in cutting out the attacks to some extent; was outfoxed at times by Pjanic and Mautidi’s guile.
Paul Pogba (6.5/10)
Mourinho made the mistake of playing the Frenchman in the same line as Matic. He sat too deep to make an impact in the first half but was more proactive in the second half; was outnumbered at times and lacked support, hit the post with a powerful left-footed effort.
Anthony Martial (5/10)
As poor as it gets from the Frenchman; looked very rusty down the left and was closed down by Joao Cancelo. Did not find the mark with his passes and failed to link-up the play, poor with his decision-making.
Marcus Rashford (5/10)
He struggled to get into the game and did not do anything of note barring that driving run in the first half where he went past two defenders.
Juan Mata (5/10)
One of the worst outings of the season so far for the Spaniard. Struggled to get into the game as Juventus dominated possession and was wasteful with his passing when he got the ball.

Romelu Lukaku (4/10)
Doesn’t look like he can have an impact on the game when the opposition dominates possession. Did not find any space against the likes of Bonucci and Chiellini and looked very poor with his movement.
