The world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will face the in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals of the Basel Open on Saturday.
The 19-year-old has reached his first semifinal since bagging the title in Flushing Meadows. Alcaraz is seeking his sixth title in what has been a sensational season so far.
The young Spaniard lost the first set of his first match against Jack Draper. That is the only set he has dropped so far in the tournament. He came back to win 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 against Draper. Alcaraz produced a clinical display against Botic van de Zandschulp in the round of 16 and won the match 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz got the better of his fellow countryman Pablo Carreno Busta with another compact effort. The match ended 6-3, 6-4 in favor of the youngster.
The Canadian tennis pro has been in scintillating form as of late. He is just two wins away from bagging a third consecutive title. Like Alcaraz, Auger-Aliassime has also lost only one set thus far in the tournament and that came in the first set of his first-round encounter against Marc-Andrea Huesler.
The 24-year-old produced one of his best performances in 2022 against Miomir Kecmanovic in the round of 16. The match ended 6-1, 6-0 as the Serbian was completely outplayed. The quarter-final clash between Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Bublik was another one-sided affair. The former won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-0 in favor of Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
