The world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will begin his Basel Open campaign against the world No. 45 – Jack Draper in the round of 32 on Monday.
The impressive Spaniard will tell his grandkids about the year 2022 because the kind of results he has produced is the stuff of dreams. Alcaraz won four titles on the tour prior to beginning his US Open campaign. He was one of the favorites going into the tournament. The 19-year-old had shown promise in the previous Grand Slams but he lived up to his potential in Flushing Meadows. He defeated Casper Ruud in the final to win his first Grand Slam title and reached the top of the ATP rankings.
Alcaraz recently played in Astana, in what was his first match since winning the US Open final. The youngster did not have a great outing though as he lost in the first match against David Goffin in straight sets. He will be looking forward to turning on the heat in Basel.
The 20-year-old has won four Challenger titles this season. At the tour level, his best performance came in Eastbourne, when he made it to the semifinals. Other than that, his other notable results came in the Canadian Open and the Winston-Salem Open where he reached the quarterfinals.
Draper is coming into the tournament on the back of an exit in the round of 16 of the European Open. He lost to Hubert Hurkacz but not before putting up a serious fight.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
