The world No. 3 Casper Ruud takes on the 3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka in the round of 32 of the Basel Open.
The Norwegian sensation has been quite phenomenal this year. He won the Argentina Open in February and made it to the finals in Miami. At the Geneva Open, Ruud bagged his second title of the year. He had a stunning run at the French Open as he made it to the finals where he went down to the legendary Rafael Nadal. The 23-year-old reached the final at the Swiss Open before reaching his second Grand Slam final in 2022 in Flushing Meadows. Ruud lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a highly-anticipated clash.
The second seed is coming into the tournament on the back of a disappointing campaign at the Japan Open. He lost in the first round against Jaume Munar in straight sets.
The Swiss veteran is a two-time semi-finalist in the Basel Open. He has not had a season to remember thus far. The 37-year-old made it to the semi-finals of the Moselle Open in Metz and the run included a thumping win against Daniil Medvedev. Other than that, Wawrinka has not been able to win too many matches this season.
He lost in the first round at the Astana Open and the European Open earlier this month. Wawrinka will have to use all his experience as he gears up to face one of the most promising players at the moment in the sport.
The head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Casper Ruud to win in straight sets.
