The in-form Holger Rune will square off against the Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals of the Basel Open on Saturday.
Holger Rune
The19-year-old has been in blistering form as of late. He reached the Sofia Open final earlier this month but failed to cross the hurdle. Rune didn’t get bogged down after the loss as he bagged his second ATP title of the year after defeating the top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Stockholm Open final.
The dream run has continued in the Basel Open as well. The Danish youngster began his campaign against another player who came into the tournament on the back of some fine form – Alex de Minaur. However, Rune got off the blocks quicker and didn’t give the Aussie star an inch in the first set. The seventh seed did show some fight in the second set but Rune proved to be too hot to handle as he won the match 6-2, 7-5. In the round of 16, Rune made light work of Ugo Humbert and won the match 6-4, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Rune defeated another Frenchman, Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets 7-6 (7-0), 6-2.
Roberto Bautista Agut
After winning the Austrian Open in July, the 34-year-old went through a spell of indifferent form. However, he has been on song so far in the Basel Open with wins against a couple of fellow veterans.
Roberto Bautista Agut began his campaign in Basel with a comprehensive win against Laslo Djere in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. In the round of 16, he locked horns with three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray. The sixth seed produced a clinical display to win the match 6-3, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, he defeated the home favorite Stan Wawrinka in a closely-contested two-set thriller. The match ended 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in favor of the Spaniard.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
Prediction: Holger Rune to win in straight sets.
