Fans on social media believe that Stefano Tsitsipas is bound to taste plenty of success on clay courts in the future after the Greek star’s second consecutive Monte Carlo Masters triumph.
Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) to clinch the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters title. The 23-year-old successfully defended his crown as he hammered 21 winners and made only 11 unforced errors in the Monaco sunshine to win in an hour and 36 minutes. His Spanish opponent did fight hard, but Fokina was no match for Tsitsipas on Sunday.
It was Tsitsipas’ eighth career title and second Monte Carlo Masters crown in a row. The Greek star couldn’t have wished for a better start to the clay-court season. In fact, Tsitsipas’ dominance on the clay court has earned him plenty of praise from tennis fans all across the globe.
He joins an elite list of players to win the Monte Carlo Masters twice in a row. The other players who have achieved this feat before are Rafael Nadal, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Thomas Muster and Bjorn Borg.
Tsitsipas beat the likes of Fabio Fognini, Laslo Dere, Diego Schwartzman and Alexander Zverev en route to the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters final. The Greek tennis ace beat Andrey Rublev in the Monte Carlo final 12 months ago and Tsitsipas has now won four clay tournaments in his career.
This has got a number of social media fans buzzing about how impressive Tsitsipas is on the clay court. After his triumph, Tsitsipas also admitted that he kept believing in himself and his ability to go all the way and lift the trophy despite a few minor setbacks in the tournament.
