History is set to be created as Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova and Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic will face each other in the women’s tennis singles gold medal match.
Vondrousova, who toppled tournament favourite, Naomi Osaka, in the third round, continued her amazing run beating Elina Svitolina, the fourth seed, 6-3, 6-1. On the other hand, Bencic, the ninth seed beat Elena Rybakina 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the final.
This is a first Olympic final for both women who will be aiming to finish on a high. Vondrousova reacted after assuring her country of a medal saying: (h/t Guardian)
“I’m now just happy to be in the final. It’s an amazing feeling. I can’t believe it. Maybe it’ll sink in later. This is amazing, even if it’s silver or gold, it’s amazing and I’m just very proud.”
The match is set to be played at Ariake Tennis Park in Tokyo, expecting a clear sky for the match.
The match is set to be played on Saturday, with the loser having to claim a silver, while the winner will earn an amazing Gold for the first time ever.
Marketa Vondrousova holds a 1-0 margin over the Swiss. Vondrousova won a hard-fought three-set win over Bencic in Miami earlier this year.
The second meeting could be the biggest games of their careers as they both fight it out for the Gold medal in women’s singles.
The match will be a spicy affair with both women the underdogs in the final. No one could have ever expected either women to make it into the final. But, all eyes will be on them as they aim to get just one more win to create history for themselves and the country.

The weather gods have not prevented any matches in the tournament. This has made it easier for the matches to go on smoothly without any delays. The expected temperature is supposed to be 32 degree Celsius maximum, with a minimum of 24.
The match will hopefully get a clearer weather than predicted ahead of the high-octane final.
Bencic has been impressive in wins against Pavlyuchenkova and Rybakina. The Swiss looks in ominous form and has gone from strength to strength in the tournament.
Vondrousova, on the other hand has got a cheeky shot in her arsenal – the drop shot. She has used it to maximised effect which has worked out well for her. Bencic, will be wary of her game and will look to extend the length of points to gain the upper-hand.
The match could be anyone’s for the taking and will be very tight to call a winner between Bencic and Vondrousova tomorrow.
Prediction: Vondrousova in three sets
