Bellator returns to action this Friday with a fresh card at Bellator 278, and an immediate event following the card at Bellator 279 on Saturday. The events are set to take place at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. The main event features Juliana Velasquez looking to defend her women’s flyweight title for the second time as she takes on Liz Carmouche.

A black belt in judo, Velasquez is undefeated in her pro-MMA career. She won the Flyweight championship by defeating Ilima-Lei Macfarlane at Bellator 254 via unanimous decision. Carmouche on the other hand is a veteran and an absolute legend of the sport.

She is widely regarded as a trailblazer for being Ronda Rousey’s dance partner in the first-ever women’s fight inside the octagon. She made her switch to Bellator in 2020, and has been on a three-fight win streak with two finishes. With more than a decade of MMA experience under her belt, she would be looking forward to laying her hands on the gold of one of the biggest promotions in the world.

In the co-main event Nikita Mikhailov faces Enrique Barzola in the bantamweight division. Nikita won his debut fight at Bellator 269, when he won his fight against Brian Moore via unanimous decision. He grabbed another victory against Blaine Shutt at via TKO at Bellator 273. Enrique Barzola on the other hand trains out of American Kickboxing Academy, a team that has forged champions like Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Luke Rockhold. A former winner of the Ultimate Fighter Latin America Tournament, Barzola made his Bellator debut at 273 and won the fight via TKO. He had 5 wins and 3 losses inside the UFC octagon.
