Bellator returns to action this Friday with their new card which will take place on 22nd July 2022 at the Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington. The event was originally set to be headlined by a lightweight championship fight between Patricky Pitbull and Sidney Outlaw. However, the fight was cancelled after Pitbull pulled out due to injury. The event will now be headlined by a welterweight fight between top-ranked contenders Douglas Lima and Jason Jackson.
Douglas Lima is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, and former three-time Bellator welterweight champion. A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Lima is currently ranked the #3 Welterweight in the world by USA Today/MMAjunkie and the #6 Welterweight fighter in the world by MMA ranking site Fight Matrix, and he was widely regarded as the best MMA Welterweight fighter outside of the UFC in 2019.
Lima began his professional mixed martial arts career with decent success, soon compiling a record of 5–0, back in 2006. With a record of 18 wins and 4 losses, in May 2011, it was announced that Lima had signed to fight for Bellator Fighting Championships. Lima entered the Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament. He fought Steve Carl in the opening round held at Bellator 49 and won the fight via unanimous decision. Lima fought Chris Lozano in the semifinals at Bellator 53 and won via KO in the second round. In the finals, he faced Ben Saunders and won via KO in the second round.
His opponent Jason Jackson fights out of Hollywood, FL by way of Jamaica. He trains at Stanford MMA alongside some of the best minds in the game. He has a record of 15 wins and 4 losses in the octagon. His prime training partners include Logan Storley, Robbie Lawler, Rory MacDonald, Wagner Rocha, Gilbert & Herbert Burns.
He is a former LFA Welterweight Champion, Titan FC Welterweight Champion, and VFC (Victory Fighting Championships) Welterweight Champion.
