Islam Mamedov earned a victory against Brent Primus at Bellator 263 via. split decision of the judges
The main card of Bellator 263, saw Islam Mamedov take on former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus in a lightweight bout.
Mamedov, on an 18-fight win streak, was coming off a submission win over Martin Mezhlumyan at UAE Warriors 14, in November 2020, whereas Primus defeated Chris Bungard last, at Bellator 240, more than a year and a half ago.
The three-round contest was quite devoid of action. With most of the time spent on the canvas in almost all three rounds, it was Mamedov’s takedown in the first round, that proved to be valuable.
The entirety of the second round was spent in the clinch, with the third round being a tussle for improving each other’s positions.
It was Mamedov, the debutant, who came up trumps, scoring 29-28 on two judges’ scorecard, while the other judge scored the same in favour of Primus.
Twitter was divided over the victory of Mamedov, with some claiming that Primus deserved to win, while a few felt that Mamedov should have earned a unanimous decision win.
Here are a few Twitter reactions:
Khabib Nurmagomedov goes 8-0 up with Islam Mamedov and Usman Nurmagomedov wins
Khabib Nurmagomedov was by Islam Mamedov, cousin Usman Nurmagomedov and Gadzhi Rabadanov’s corner. Having already been 5-0 up in his coaching career, Khabib was looking forward to continuing his unbeaten record as a coach.
He was successful in his quest as both Mamedov and Usman earned victories, and Gadzhi Rabadanov as well. While, Mamedov earned a split decision victory, Usman came off with a brutal first-round TKO win over Manny Muro.
It looks like Khabib is immortal.
