Ben Shelton started his ATP Tour journey as a wildcard entry in the Atlanta Open. In the initial round, he achieved his first ATP win by defeating Ramkumar Ramanathan. Later, he reached his fourth Challenger final at the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger, where he secured his first Challenger title by beating his doubles’ partner Christopher Eubanks.
He continued his success and clinched his fifth Challenger title in the Knoxville Challenger, defeating Christopher Eubanks once again. With three consecutive titles, including the Champaign-Urbana Challenger, he entered the top 100 rankings, finishing the year at world No. 97 on 21 November 2022. Notably, he became the youngest player in ATP Challenger Tour history to win three titles in three weeks.
During his debut at the 2023 Australian Open, Ben Shelton showcased an impressive performance, advancing to the fourth round. He achieved victories against Zhang Zhizhen, Nicolás Jarry, and Alexei Popyrin. This tournament marked only his second Grand Slam appearance, the first one being at the 2022 US Open.
Unfortunately, his run came to an end with a four-set loss to fellow American Tommy Paul. Despite the defeat, his notable performance led to a significant rise in rankings, as he climbed 45 positions to break into the top 50 for the first time in his career, reaching world No. 44.
