Benny Parsons was a former NASCAR driver who won the 1973 NASCAR Winston Cup Series title. His achievements were big during the 1970s. Parsons also secured championships in the ARCA Racing Series. Benny Parsons Car Collections

Benny Parsons’ race car collections include Chevrolet, Ford, Buick, and Mercury. He made his cup series debut in the 1964 season for Holman-Moody in Ford. Parsons competed in the next three seasons in his Ford Torino. Parsons secured championships in the ARCA Racing Series in his Ford. He won the 1973 Winston Cup Series in a Chevrolet Chevelle. Parsons also owned the Chevelle in his garage before selling it for $100,000 along with his other vehicles.

Some of Benny Parsons’ other race cars were Ford Thunderbird sponsored by Bulls-Eye BBQ, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and Mercury Cyclone. Benny Parsons  secured the Daytona 500 in 1975 in Chevrolet for DeWitt Racing. Apart from these, he drove Pontiac and Buick in the cup series for some seasons.

Benny Parsons Car Accidents

In NASCAR, many drivers go through accidents and some even lose their lives. Benny Parsons’ car crash can never be forgotten as he scripted history in 1973 by winning the cup series even after going through a crash. The event took place in Rockingham where Parsons was involved in a crash with other drivers. His car was damaged during lap 13, but his crew rescued him and he won the title finishing 28th.

In 1973, Benny Parsons was involved in another accident in the Atlanta 500. His car spun and made contact with Darrell Waltrip’s vehicle. After a few minutes, Benny Parsons’ vehicle hit the wall and his car was damaged. He could not win the race, but survived with minor injuries. In the 1988 Atlanta Journal 500, Benny Parsons suffered a crash and he didn’t finish the race. This was his last race as a full-time driver.

Benny Parsons Car Numbers

Benny Parsons’ iconic car number was #72. He secured the 1973 NASCAR Cup Series in #72 Chevrolet. Parsons also won the 1975 Daytona 500 for DeWitt Racing in the same car and number. In his early days, Parsons drove numbers like #06, #18, and #88. He also used the #72 for Ford, Oldsmobile, and Mercury cars. #27 was his other number which helped him secure some wins in NASCAR.

Parsons drove the #12 Orange Chevrolet Camaro in the IROC events. His #55 Black Oldsmobile was sponsored by Copenhagen which he used in the early 1980s. Benny Parsons’ #55 Buick Regal was sponsored by Skoal. It has green and white designs. He drove Buick in the cup series for Ellington Racing, Gray Racing, and Johnny Hayes Racing.
