Beth Phoenix opens up on how she suffered from a broken jaw on her WWE RAW debut vs Victoria
WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix has opened up on how she suffered from a broken jaw on her singles debut against Victoria.
The incident went about on her first appearance on Monday Night RAW, as revealed by ‘The Glamazon’ in the WWE Icons: Beth Phoenix Documentary which hit the WWE Network this past Sunday.
Speaking on how she suffered the broken jaw, Phoenix revealed that she had copped a powerful slap from Victoria but wasn’t aware of the severity of the injury. Instead, she thought she had just lost a tooth and carried on the match, pinning Victoria to pick up her first win.
“When Victoria hit me, I had had my mouth open ever so slightly. I knew something was wrong. I stuck my tongue between my teeth and I was like ‘Oh there’s a gap there.’ So I thought something had happened and I’d lost a tooth.”
Beth Phoenix realises backstage that her jaw is broken
Another WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus, who was at ringside then happened to carry Phoenix backstage after The Glamazon was bleeding from her mouth. When taken to the medical room, the reaction from everyone around her left Phoenix stunned.
“I’m sitting on the thing and then they opened my mouth like this and I saw everyone in the room recoil [jumps back] like that and that’s when I knew it was probably bad.”
Phoenix was then rushed to a medical facility where an X-Ray was performed following which she learned that her jaw was broken, dislocated and displaced. This left The Glamazon in tears as she was set to be sidelined just after making her on-screen debut.
“They take me to the hospital. I get x-rayed. They said your jaw is shattered, dislocated, displaced. I just cried. I didn’t know what else to do.”
Beth Phoenix left that setback behind and went on to have an amazing career in WWE, cementing her status as one of the best female superstars in the business. Currently, The Glamazon can be seen behind the commentary desk on WWE NXT, and she’s excelling there too.
