Dak Prescott will be playing his eighth season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. The former Mississippi State QB will be hoping he can lead his time to the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the campaign.
Prescott was forced to miss five weeks last season after picking up a thumb injury in his side’s week one defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When he returned to action, he finished with an 8-4 record in the regular season. The Cowboys reached the Divisional Round of the playoffs but were beaten by the San Francisco 49ers 19-12.

The 29-year-old is now approaching 25,000 passing yards since he joined the NFL in 2016. He has scored 166 passing touchdowns and 26 rushing touchdowns. The former NFL Rookie of the Year is widely regarded to be one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league.
As of July 25, Dallas is +1400 in the Super Bowl betting with Betway for next season. It has been 28 years now since the Cowboys last won the title, so Prescott will be doing all he can to end the franchise’s wait for glory. Owner Jerry Jones sees his QB as the key to any potential future success, as he handed the former fourth-round pick a new $160 million four-year contract in 2021.
Prescott has been in the conversation for the MVP award in the NFL before, and if he can produce his best football consistently, he could become a contender for that prize again. Like Steph Curry is in the NBA and Mike Trout is in the MLB, he is one of the most popular players in his sport.
No Elliott as RB For First Time in His Pro Career

This season will be the first that Prescott plays for the Cowboys where he will not have running back Ezekiel Elliott behind him. The former first-round pick was released by Dallas back in March, ending his seven-year stay with the franchise.
Elliott was the rushing leader in the NFL in his opening season in the league as a rookie in 2016. He once again topped the rushing standings at the end of the 2018 campaign. In 2021, he rushed for over 1,000 yards in a single year for the fourth time in his career.
The 28-year-old was not as productive in 2022, and with running back Tony Pollard impressing last season, with 1,007 rushing yards and 12 all-purpose touchdowns, the Cowboys have opted to make the former Memphis player their starting RB.
Losing Elliott will be something that will disappoint Prescott. Not only did he join Dallas in the same year as the RB, but he also formed a great relationship with him on and off the gridiron. They had been very successful together in the Cowboys’ offense.
Dallas Win Race to Sign Cooks
Prescott will have a new wide receiver to throw to next season as Dallas signed Brandin Cooks, as reported by CBS. The Cowboys traded with the Houston Texans for his services, giving up a fifth-round pick in 2023 and a sixth-round pick in 2024.
Cooks is now with his fifth franchise in the NFL. He has recorded 8,616 receiving yards and 49 rushing touchdowns in his career. His best year in the league so far came in 2018 with the LA Rams, as he finished the campaign with 1,204 receiving yards.
At the age of just 29, Dallas will feel they have acquired one of the best receivers in the NFL in his prime. Prescott will be doing all he can in the offseason to form a great relationship with the former Texans player.
Prescott is now fortunate to have a range of players to throw to next season. CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup have been a big part of their offense over the last few years. The former ended the campaign with a career-high 1,359 yards in 2022, taking over the position as the leading receiver following Amari Cooper’s trade to the Cleveland Browns, as covered by Yahoo.
If Cooks can integrate into the Cowboys team from week one, Dallas is likely to cause opponents’ defense many problems next season, and they could be serious Super Bowl contenders.
Dallas’ opening game of the 2023 season will come against divisional rivals the New York Giants on September 11 at MetLife Stadium.
