In 1974, Walton was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers as the first overall pick in the NBA draft.
He played for the Portland Trail Blazers, San Diego/Los Angeles Clippers, and Boston Celtics during his NBA career. Walton won two NBA championships, one with the Trail Blazers in 1977 and another with the Celtics in 1986. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and the 1978 NBA MVP.
