Boban’s interest in basketball started when he joined the Boljevac-based club Rtanj. At 14, he joined the Serbian Professional team, Hemofarm. He got selected for the first team of the club. After serving several months for the Hemofarm, he was loaned to Swisslion Takovo. But within a few weeks, he returned to the Hemofarm. As his form continues to persist, the Mega Vizura signed Boban for the 2012-13 season. He received the MVP of the Serbian League title that season.
For the 2013-2014 season, Boban signed a two-year contract with Crvena Zvezda. He was named the EuroLeague MVP of the Round for Round 10. In a match against Galatasaray, he did 17 rebounds, which was considered the highest number of rebounds by any player in a single game. He also sets a record for the number of rebounds by a player in a season, with 256 rebounds.
After all his good performances in the Serbian League, the San Antonio Spurs from NBA came forward and signed a $1.2 million contract with Boban in 2015. His NBA debut was against the Brooklyn Nets on October 30. His first assignment with the Austin Spurs, the affiliate NBA G League team of the Spurs, was signed by Boban on December 4. In a match against the Phoenix Suns, Marjanovic created a record by smashing 12 rebounds in less than 15 minutes.
During the start of the 2016 Season, the Detroit Pistons offered a $21 million contract to Boban. He asked the Spurs whether they can match the pay but they refused it. So, Boban signed the contract and made his debut for the Pistons in 2016. In 2019, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. After a remarkable performance in the 2019 season, the Dallas Mavericks signed Boban for the 2021 season. But unfortunately, half of the season was suspended due to COVID-19 Pandemic. Currently, in the 2022 season, he is playing for the Houston Rockets.
