Bournemouth Opinion: Why the Cherries should go for Ademola Lookman?
According to a report in the Independent, Bournemouth are interested in Everton outcast Ademola Lookman. (h/t Daily Echo)
Ademola Lookman, 21, has been on the books of Everton since January 2017 when he joined from Charlton Athletic. However, he has failed to nail down a regular starting berth with the Toffees and managed just three Premier League starts this past season under Marco Silva.
The report claims Southampton are also interested in the winger, with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl having managed the 21-year-old when he was on loan at Hasenhuttl’s former club RB Leipzig last season.
But it’s Bournemouth that must win the race for Lookman this summer.
Bournemouth have already signed their first player of this summer’s transfer window in Lloyd Kelly. Kelly, 20, has joined from Bristol City and the highly-rated left-back is expected to make an impact for the Cherries next season.
The Sea Coast club’s 14-placed finish this past season will be deemed as a huge disappointed, especially after Eddie Howe’s men started the campaign so well and once looked assured to finish in the top half of the table. But they couldn’t pick up the momentum in 2019 which saw the Cherries lose matches which they shouldn’t have.
That should serve as a lesson to Howe and the Bournemouth tactician must bring in few quality players to bolster his squad. One area that would need reinforcing is the attack, with Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson targeted by European clubs. Should these two star performers in Fraser and Wilson leave the club in any case, Bournemouth’s attack will become toothless.
Howe’s side already has a lot of exciting English talent developing together, thus, signing Lookman makes complete sense. The 21-year-old has pace and energy in abundance, is skilful and direct with the ability to play up-front or out wide. He is a very good dribbler and has the confidence to take on his marker and beat him.

The former Charlton prospect would potentially bolster Bournemouth’s attacking options, whilst being a great option to have from the bench. Lookman’s career has stalled at Everton but at 21, he still has a lot of time to revive his career. Bournemouth could be the ideal place for him to start a fresh chapter, as Howe is known for nurturing young talents.
Verdict
If Bournemouth manage to pull off a deal for the out-of-favour Everton winger, he would likely come straight into the starting XI under Howe. Lookman will fit in perfectly to Howe’s style of play and could unlock his massive potential at the Vitality Stadium.
