Brandon Aiyuk was born on March 17, 1998, and is a wide receiver and return specialist for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football at Sierra College and Arizona State, the 49ers selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He is currently on the team.
Early life and high school
Aiyuk spent his childhood in Reno, Nevada, despite having been born in Rocklin, California. He received his secondary education at Robert McQueen High School. As a senior, he was recognized as a first-team All-Northern Nevada and honorable mention All-State football player after participating in the wide receiver, defensive back, and kick return positions for the McQueen high school football team.
College career
Sierra College was where Aiyuk’s career in collegiate football got its start. As a rookie, he was selected All-Big 8 Conference after catching 29 receptions for 573 yards and five scores, earning him the honor. During his sophomore year, he was recognized as a Junior College All-American after compiling the following statistics: 60 receptions for 960 yards and 14 touchdowns; returning 11 kickoffs for 418 yards and two scores, and returning 14 punts for 313 yards and a touchdown. By the end of his tenure in junior college, he had accumulated 2,499 yards all-purpose and scored 21 touchdowns.
Aiyuk chose to accept an offer to transfer to Arizona State from Colorado State, Kansas, Tennessee, and Alabama rather than accept one of the other schools’ offers for the last two years of his NCAA eligibility. He decided to attend Arizona State University because it was one of the few colleges that recruited him to play wide receiver rather than simply as a return specialist or intending to move him to a defensive position.
Aiyuk had 33 receptions for 474 yards and three touchdowns in his first season with the Sun Devils. He also had 381 total return yards besides his receiving yardage.
Prior to beginning his senior year, Aiyuk was honored by being selected to the third team of the preseason All-Pac-12 Conference.
After collecting seven passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over Washington State on October 12, 2019, he was awarded the title of Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Aiyuk was also recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Week for the conference after he returned kickoffs for 44 yards and punts for 76 yards, 63 of which came in his first return for a touchdown at Arizona State University, which was on November 16 versus Oregon State. In addition, he set a new career-high with 10 receptions, had 173 receiving yards, and scored a touchdown during the game.
His 293 total yards were the fifth-most in a single game in the annals of the school’s history. At the end of the season, Aiyuk finished with 65 receptions for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns. In addition, he returned 14 punts for 226 yards and one touchdown, as well as 14 kickoffs for 446 yards, and he was named to the first team of All-Pac-12 for both wide receiver and return specialist.
