Brandon Clarke Career
Clarke’s basketball journey started at his high school. He played high school basketball for Desert Vista High School in Phoenix and led his team to grab the Arizona Republic championship back in 2015.
He joined the San Jose State Spartans for the first two seasons of his college career. During his freshman year, he averaged 17.3 points with 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. On seeing his brilliant performance, he was promoted to the All-Mountain West First Team and Mountain West All-Defensive Team. At the end of the second season, Brandon wished to transfer to Gonzaga but he redshirted for the 2017-18 season.
His junior year at Gonzaga was filled with awards such as the West Coast Conference’s Newcomer of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year, also he was promoted to the All-WCC First Team. Clarke became the first person in WCC history to grab both the Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year at the same time. With his 36 points against Baylor, he became the 3rd player in the history of the NCAA to score 35+ points with 5 blocks.
Brandon entered into the 2019 NBA draft with lots of expectations. He was drafted by the Thunders as the 21st overall pick in the draft. A few days after the draft, the Grizzlies acquired the rights of Brandon from Thunders. In the 2019 summer league, he was awarded the most valuable player of the season for his brilliant performance. Brandon led Memphis to a championship victory and created a new achievement by becoming the first non-American to win a championship MVP. Clarke made his NBA debut on October 23 2019 against the Miami Heat, he scored eight points with seven rebounds and an assist. A right quadricep injury cost him to miss several matches in the season. The Grizzlies extended Clarke’s contract till the 2023 season. As of now, everything is going well for Clarke with the Grizzlies.
