Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz got his first pole position in Formula 1 on a wet track at the British GP on Saturday.
Carlos Sainz will start from pole position for the first time in his career after he set the fastest time in Q3 at the British GP on Saturday. The Ferrari driver will start ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the front row, with his Scuderia teammate Charles Leclerc in third.
It was Sainz’ first pole position in 151 attempts over the course of his Formula 1 career. Verstappen was comfortably heading both Q1 and Q2 as the leader of the pack but in the last few moments of Q3, Sainz unleashed his final lap to stop the clocks at 1m 40.983 and take P1 and Verstappen couldn’t better the Spaniard. Sainz will now be hoping to get his first F1 win as well when the lights go out on Sunday.
