British GP 2022: Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz got his first race win at Silverstone on Sunday, in what was his 150th F1 start.
In what was a thrilling British GP 2022, Ferrari star Carlos Sainz grabbed his first victory in Formula 1 on Sunday. The Spaniard started from pole position but had to retake the lead from his teammate Charles Leclerc in the final stages of the race following a safety car. Sainz also became the second driver from Spain to win a Grand Prix in F1.
Leclerc, who was the only driver in the top 10 who didn’t pit after a late safety car, ended up finishing 4th as he was passed by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (P2) and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (P3). The four drivers were involved in a sensational battle towards the end of the race and switched positions plenty of times after the safety car during their scrimmage.
Meanwhile, Championship leader Max Verstappen could only take P7, despite taking the lead early on in the race. The Dutchman suffered some form of damage to the floor of his Red Bull, the Dutchman holding off the Haas of Mick Schumacher in the final laps, as the German scored his first points in F1 in P8. Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel managed a P9 finish ahead of Kevin Magnussen.
