Bruno’s interest in basketball started while playing in school-level competitions. He was selected for the Angolan national team and travelled with the team to the 2014 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. His skills and talent were noticed by the United States Scouts. Bruno received an offer for joining the Montverde Academy and he accepted the offer.
His college basketball career started at the University of Maryland. His debut for Maryland was against Stony Brook, he scored ten points with two rebounds in the thirteen minutes he played. After his freshman year, he entered his name into the NBA draft. But he later withdrew it and returned back to his sophomore year.
Fernando entered the 2019 NBA draft and was drafted as the 34th pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. It was the first time an Angolo player got into the NBA draft. After a month without making his NBA debut, Fernando was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. The 24-year-old’s dream came true as he made his NBA debut on October 2019 against the Detroit Pistons. He scored seven points with three rebounds and two assists. In between, he got his assignment to College Park, the NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks.
On August 2021, Boston Celtics grabbed Fernando in a three-team trade. He made his debut for the Celtics on August 2021.
The Houston Rockets signed Bruno in a trade with the Boston Celtics. Meanwhile, on July 2022, the Rockets re-signed Fernando in a two-way contract.
