Buddy Baker is a former NASCAR driver who competed in 700 races in NASCAR. Baker won the Daytona 500 event in 1980 and Southern 500 in 1970. Buddy Baker Car Collections

Buddy Baker began racing in Chevrolet for his own team in the 1959 season. In the first three seasons, he drove Chevrolet, Ford, and Chrysler. Buddy Baker drove Dodge Charger Daytona and Oldsmobile cars in the next seasons. He won the 1980 Daytona 500 in his iconic Gray Ghost Oldsmobile car. He secured the 1970 Southern 500 title in Cotton Owens’ Dodge Daytona.

Buddy Baker also created a record with his blue Dodge Daytona at Talladega by becoming the first driver to drive at 200 mph on a closed course. There is no information about Buddy Baker’s personal car collections. He owned diecast replicas of his Dodge, Oldsmobile, and Chevrolet vehicles based on reports.

Buddy Baker Car Accidents

Baker suffered a crash at The Smoky Mountain Raceway in 1968 where his ribs were broken. His car tires burst and resulted in an accident. In 1975, Baker participated in a race at Talladega. He was known for driving at a high speed and suffered a crash after a mechanical failure. Buddy Baker survived the accident which could have become a nightmare for him.

Buddy Baker was involved in another accident in the 1988 Coca-Cola 600 and Daytona 500. He made contact with John Sears and Mario Andretti’s vehicles during the crash. In the Coca-Cola 600 race, Baker experienced a crash and suffered a head injury after a failure in the engine. Reports revealed he underwent brain surgery after a blood clot.

Buddy Baker Car Numbers

#28 was Buddy Baker’s primary car number. He won numerous races including the Daytona 500 in 1980 for Ranier-Lundy Racing.  He also drove other numbers like #89, #95, #32, #64, #88, #7, #01, #6, #10 and #2. Baker also recorded 200mph in his #88 Blue Dodge Daytona. Baker drove #6 Dodge Daytona and secured the Southern 500 in 1970. Buddy Baker’s #11 red Dodge car was sponsored by STP which he drove in some races.

Baker also drove Ford cars in some seasons of NASCAR Cup Series. He drove #10, #64,#73, #74, #00, #21, and #84 ford cars. In his last cup series, Buddy Baker drove #20 Ford for Moroso Racing. His Ford cars were sponsored by Valvoline and Goodyear. Buddy Baker’s Ford was a 1983 Thunderbird model.
