Why Harry Wilson would be a good addition at Burnley

According to Lancs Live, Harry Wilson was a transfer target for Burnley in the summer transfer window. Eventually, the Liverpool youngster headed out to Cardiff City on a one-year loan. Since then he has impressed for the club while Burnley have struggled.

The 23-year-old Welsh forward spent 10 years in the youth teams at Liverpool before being loaned out to Crewe Alexandra. On his return, he spent the next season at the U-23 level. Three successive loan spells followed from 2017 to 2020.

While his first spell, which was at Hull City, did not go well, it was his stint at Derby County that got him recognition. In 50 appearances, he scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists (h/t Transfermarkt). Wilson then spent last season at Bournemouth.

While the club ended up getting relegated, Wilson did himself no harm with his performances. He directly contributed to 9 goals in 35 appearances. On returning to Liverpool, he was allowed to leave on loan again this time to Cardiff City. The youngster is also making his name in the Wales team with 17 caps and 3 goals so far.

Harry Wilson would be a good fit for Burnley should they decide to pursue him again

Wilson has started the ongoing season well on a personal note having contributed three goals in 6 Championship games. Cardiff have benefitted from that as they aren’t among the relegation places in the Championship. Even if it is just a one-year loan Cardiff will feel that they got a good deal.

Burnley, meanwhile, are in a rut this season. The club had a non-existent transfer window with the only major arrival being Dale Stephens from Brighton. They needed some attackers and the statement still holds true as they have only managed to score three goals in seven league games.

It was easy to see why they were after Wilson in the summer. Blessed with a gem of a left foot, the winger likes to play as an inverted winger and cut in from there. He can also hit the dead ball with quite some aplomb and accuracy.

Verdict

Burnley would be wise to return for him next season provided they can stave off relegation this season. He is exactly the sort of player they need in the final third to change their fortune. Wilson may still be learning the trade but he is no slouch. He has ample experience and can be an excellent addition for the Clarets.
