Burnley Opinion: Why the Clarets should go for Benito Raman this summer?

According to a report from Lancs Live, Burnley are interested in signing Fortuna Dusseldorf forward Benito Raman in the summer.

The Belgian, 24, began his career at hometown club Gent, where he scored 10 goals in 48 appearances, before joining Fortuna Dusseldorf, initially on loan. He made his move permanent in March last year, penning a contract with the German club until 2022.

Benito Raman has been in fine form this season, netting nine goals and adding a further three assists in 24 Bundesliga games. The 24-year-old has impressed with his goalscoring ability and creativity, catching the attention of Burnley.

Burnley have failed to live up to the expectations this season after a fantastic 2017/18 campaign. They are currently fighting against the drop, with the Clarets just six points above the final relegation place. Seeing them struggle mightily this term, it’s clear Sean Dyche needs new signings in the summer, even if Burnley manages to retain their Premier League status.

One of the Clarets’ problems have been scoring goals, with Dyche’s men managing just 40 goals in 33 games thus far. Dyche currently has Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Matej Vydra and Peter Crouch as senior strikers on his books, although the latter is currently sidelined by injury and is out of contract at the end of the season.

There is a lot of room for improvement as far as the strike department is concerned and if that does not improve next season, they will struggle again like they have this campaign. A new forward is an absolute necessity for Burnley next season and one player who could have a brilliant impact up front is Benito Raman.

Naturally a left winger, Benito is capable of playing on the right as well as through the middle which would provide Dyche with a ton of options up front. He is renowned for his blistering pace and has shown a fantastic composure in front of goal this season.

Furthermore, his pace and ability on the ball will be invaluable and his versatility to operate as the main striker when necessary will be a huge asset to Burnley.

Verdict

An excellent finisher and a player that operates with a lot of flair, the Belgian will provide a much-needed cutting edge to the Burnley attack. Benito has the required qualities to thrive in the Premier League and that’s why Dyche must make his signature a summer transfer priority.
