Why Burnley should plot a summer swoop for Derby’s Jayden Bogle

Back in December 2019, the Daily Mail had claimed that Burnley had revived interest in Derby County right-back Jayden Bogle.

Jayden Bogle, 19, broke into the first-team picture at Pride Park under the stewardship of Frank Lampard last season and took the Championship by storm with a string of impressive performances over the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign, playing a key role to propel Derby County to the finals of the playoffs.

The full-back made 50 appearances and was named the club’s young player of the year. The young Englishman has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise inconsistent 2019/20 campaign for the Rams, registering a goal and five assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. With Bogle having a solid campaign with Derby, Burnley must plot a summer swoop for the defender.

Sean Dyche has successfully transformed the Clarets into a competent mid-table outfit in the Premier League over the past few years and they should now look for better quality players to propel them to greater heights.

They are 10th in the table and were in good form of late before all elite football action in Britain was suspended amidst the coronavirus outbreak. Keeping that in mind, Dyche must start preparing for the next season. The Burnley boss should aim to sign a new right-back before the 2020/21 season commences.

Burnley’s right-backs Phil Bardsley and Matthew Lowton have entered their 30s. Bardsley and Lowton will turn 35 and 31 respectively in June. Certainly, both aren’t the forces they once were in their prime and Dyche should replace them sooner than later. Hence, the Clarets must sign Jayden Bogle.

Bogle has continued his strong form from last season, establishing himself as a regular fixture in the team. One might argue that he is still very young and might struggle to make the step up to the Premier League, but from whatever he has shown in the Championship so far, he looks capable of making the step up

Verdict

The England U20 international would bolster Burnley’s options on the right side of the defence, whilst adding depth to the squad. Bogle is still a raw product but there are chances of himself improving his game under Dyche at Turf Moor.

Hence, Burnley should sign Bogle in a bid to fix their right-back conundrum for the longer term.
