Stefanos Tsitsipas is gaining traction for his impressive feats on the clay courts but can he carry forward his success and clinch the French Open title this year?

Earlier on Sunday, Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) at the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters final. It was the Greek star’s 8th ATP title and his fourth triumph at a clay-court tournament.

It took Tsitsipas only an hour and 36 minutes to beat Davidovich-Fokina as he went on to score 21 winners and made only 11 unforced errors in the Monaco sunshine to win the title. He ran his Spanish opponent into the ground and despite a hard-fought battle, came out on top in straight sets, beginning the clay season in perfect style.

Tsitsipas has looked extremely comfortable with his movement and shot selection on the clay courts. In fact, fans on social media have nicknamed the 23-year-old ‘Prince of Clay’. However, Tsitispas will now be looking to carry forward his success of winning another clay-court tournament to the Roland Garros in May.

With 13-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal still struggling with injury, Tsitsipas may eye glory at the Roland Garros. The Greek ace made it to the Finals of the French Open last year but suffered defeat to Serbian star Novak Djokovic. Although Djokovic will now be itching to equal Rafal Nadal’s 21 Grand Slam titles, he may have to overcome an in-form Tsitsipas, who is growing in confidence on the clay court.

Tsitsipas can use the highs of his Monte Carlo triumph to work on his game even further. The title win is bound to give him more confidence but winning the Roland Garros will be no easy task. Only time will tell whether Tstitsipas can end his wait for a Grand Slam title next month.

The 2022 French Open will commence on May 22, 2022.
