We are in the last lap of the Canadian Open 2022 as only four players are left in the competition. In this article, we will focus on the semi-final match between Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz.
Casper Ruud
The 23-year-old Norwegian has been in sublime form. He came into the tournament after a triumphant campaign at the Swiss Open. Ruud is on a 7-match winning streak and will be confident of going the distance.
In the Canadian Open tournament this year, he has dropped just one set. In the first match, he made light work of Alex Molcan. A hard-fought win against Roberto Bautista Agut followed. In the quarterfinals, Ruud locked horns with home favorite Felix Auger-Aliassime. Ruud put on a show and outclassed the Canadian star in straight sets with the scoreline of 6-1, 6-2.
Hubert Hurkacz
Hubert Hurkacz had a disastrous Citi Open campaign as he bowed out in the first round itself after losing in straight sets to Emil Ruusuvuori. However, he has come back strongly in Montreal.
The Polish star avenged his loss at the Citi Open by defeating Emil Ruusuvuori in the first set of the Canadian Open. He followed it up with another win against Albert Ramos-Vinolas. In the quarterfinals, Hurkacz had his task cut out against an in-form Nick Kyrgios. The 25-year-old defeated the Aussie in three sets. In fact, all three matches that Hurkacz has won till now have been decided in the third set.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head between the two talented players stands at 1-0 in favor of Casper Ruud.
The 23-year-old Casper Ruud is expected to make it to the final but Hurkacz might push the match into the third set.
