The Canadian Open 2022 is still in its initial stages as both Paula Badosa and Yulia Putintseva meet in the round of 32 in what could be an interesting contest.
Yulia Putintseva
The 27-year-old three-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist has managed to reach two semifinals this year. The first one came at the Istanbul Open where she lost to qualifier and eventual champion Anastasia Potapova. Putintseva’s second semi-final appearance this year came at the Hungarian Open where she lost to Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets.
Putintseva had to overcome a serious challenge from Katherine Sebov in the round of 64 of the Canadian Open. The Canadian tennis pro was quite impressive initially as she won the first set. Putintseva, however, pulled up her socks and gave a great account of herself en route to winning the second set. The third set was an evenly-contested affair but Putintseva held her nerves and eventually won the match 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Paula Badosa
The current world No. 3 ranked player won the Sydney Internation at the beginning of the year. Since then, she has reached three finals at the Indian Wells Master, the Stuttgart Open, and also at the recently-concluded Silicon Valley Classic.
Badosa has clinched three titles till now in her career. The Spaniard will be hopeful of going the distance in this tournament and a strong start could hold her in good stead.
Prediction and Head-to-Head
Paula Badosa leads the head-to-head 2-0 as she defeated Putintseva at Wimbledon 2021 and Miami Open earlier this year.
Paula Badosa will certainly be the favorite but Putintseva can manage to cause some panic if she plays positively from the get-go and somehow pushes the match into the third set. However, we are expecting Badosa to win the match in straight sets like in their previous two meetings.
