Caris Coleman LeVert is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. He played college basketball for the Michigan Wolverines.
He started his high school career at Pickerington High School Central. As a high school senior, he led Pickerington to a 26–2 record and the 2012 OHSAA Division I state championship. He became a 2012 Associated Press All-Ohio Second Team high school basketball player and the 2012 Columbus Dispatch Metro Player of the Year.
LeVert was just a three-star recruited prospect in high school. But he committed to Alabama State University to play college basketball. As a sophomore for the 2013–14 team, he became a regular starter and was selected as a second-team 2013–14 All-Big Ten player for the outright Big Ten regular season champions.
He became the 4th player in Michigan’s history who made a triple-double record and the 49th Wolverine to eclipse 1,000 career points. He had spent 4 years in Michigan, where he recorded his career-high points, rebound, and assists many times. Injury interrupted his junior and senior seasons.
The day before the 2016 NBA draft, LeVert authored an open letter to NBA general managers to assure them of his resiliency in the face of all of his doubters because of his injury. On June 23, the Indiana Pacers were selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 draft LeVert.
LeVert made his professional debut against the Denver Nuggets, where he posted 4 rebounds and 3 steals in 9 minutes of play in the 2016 season. He became the first Net player who posted 3 deals in his debut.
During the first anniversary of his NBA debut, he scored career-high 21 points and 10 assists against reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook. His performance was highlighted by his first NBA double-double on offence and also praised for his 2-steal/2-block/5-rebound effort on defence against Westbrook.
On August 26, 2019, a 6 ft 6 in-205 pounds player had extended a three-year contract with the Nets. LeVert recorded a career-high 51 points, including 37 in the fourth quarter and overtime, which led the Nets to a 129–120 win over the Boston Celtics in the 2019 season.
Caris was traded to Indiana Pacers for the 2021-2022 seasons. He recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists with a winning score of 122–111 against the Phoenix Suns.
