Carlos Alcaraz grabbed headlines on Saturday after he beat Novak Djokovic in three sets at the Madrid Open 2022 semifinals.

Earlier on Saturday, Carlos Alcaraz stunned the tennis fraternity when he beat Novak Djokovic in a three-set thriller at the semifinals of the Madrid Open. The 19-year-old beat the World No.1 Djokovic 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5) to write his name into the history books.

Alcaraz became the youngest player to defeat a reigning World No.1 ever since Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer at the semifinals of the Roland Garros in 2005. Nadal went on to win the French Open that year.

But currently, Alcaraz has become the talk of the town in Madrid. The 19-year-old had previously beaten Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open before getting past Djokovic. Victories over the two tennis greats extended Alcaraz’s winning streak over top-10 opponents to six. It was also a clear indication that the Spaniard possesses the level to consistently match the very best on the circuit.

Alcaraz also became the first player to beat 21-time Grand Slam champion Nadal and 20-time major winner Djokovic on consecutive days on a clay court. His game against Djokovic was also a lengthy one by usual standards and it highlighted the maturity shown by the teenager despite only recently making a name for himself.

Alcaraz will now face Alexander Zverev in the final of the Madrid Open. The local boy will definitely be carrying plenty of confidence heading into the final game of the tournament.
