Earlier on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz hammered Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-1 to win the 2022 Madrid Open title in style at the Manolo Santana Stadium.

Teenage superstar Carlos Alcaraz another ATP title to his CV on Sunday after beating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the Madrid Open 2022. The Spanish star was no match for the German on clay and fans on social media were quick to react to Alcaraz’s dominant display in the final.

En route to the final of the Madrid Open, Alcaraz defied plenty of odds that were stacked against him. The 19-year-old beat the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals before knocking out World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the semis after an intense three-set match. Alcaraz then completed the job on Sunday by hammering Alexander Zverev, who entered the game as the defending champion, at the final hurdle to clinch the Madrid Open crown this year.

Alcaraz has impressed heavily on the clay court, he is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best players in the world. Even Zverev had high praise for the Spaniard and labelled his opponent on Sunday as ‘the best player in the world right now.’ And tennis fans were quick to get online and wax lyrical on Alcaraz as well.

That final against Zverev was a no-contest and he should have been given the title before the game began’ while another added, ‘Alcaraz showing everybody why he is such a good player on clay, feel for Zverev there, he was totally outclassed.’ A third commented ‘Am I the only one impressed with how a 19-year-old Alcaraz just beat three tennis superstars in a matter of 3 days?’
