WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is described as an “integrated media and entertainment company”. However, most know it as the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.

The origins of the company date back to 1952 with Vince McMahon joining the business in 1954. The current CEO then pushed the wrestling promotion to new grounds with Toots Mondt.

Vince McMahon has been the CEO of the WWE since 1980. But the promotion was known as the WWF before taking up the new name.

The company has survived despite loads of competition from other companies such as WCW and ECW.

The promotion actually owns all the content regarding the two rivals while ECW was run shortly under it.

WWE Brands

Raw was the flagship brand for WWE but they had to launch another brand, SmackDown, due to the abundance of talent from other promotions.

These two have been going on strong with ECW running for a few years. Raw and SmackDown continue to run while NXT has been the rising star of the promotion in recent times.

WWE NXT has seen several stars come through the ranks and then make it to Raw and SmackDown.

205 Live is only for the Cruiserweights, which went off air for a while. However, 205 Live has returned in recent months but mostly on the WWE Network.

WWE Stars

The promotion has seen several stars reach cult status thanks to their work in the ring.

From the legendary Dusty Rhodes to the Undertaker, WWE has always provided fans big names.

Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Snuka and the Ultimate Warrior are some of the best to have been in the ring.

Several stars have also made it to the big and small screen. The Miz, the Rock and John Cena have acted in movies and TV shows.

Some of the best male talent in the ring now include Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and The Fiend Bray Wyatt.

Stephanie McMahon has been pushing the female division of the business in recent years with more emphasis on in-ring talent rather than other attributes.

Trish Status, Lita and Victoria were some of the best in the ring in the past. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Bayley, Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss are some of the current female stars fighting for honours.

The current WWE roster is packed with several rising stars through all the brands, and who knows where the next champion will come from.

Specials

The three brands are shown on a weekly basis but WWE has several specials which take place yearly.

There are more than 12 specials spread across the calendar with WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Royal Rumble the three biggest for WWE.

Most of the specials feature matches from Raw and SmackDown with NXT having their own shows. However, there are some which are exclusive to the two big brands.

The specials also are longer than the weekly shows and Crown Jewel has been one of the recent additions which was broadcast from Saudi Arabia.
