Celtic FC News: Jagielka’s experience will be a big boost for the Hoops

According to a recent report by The Scottish Sun, recently released Everton veteran Phil Jagielka is attracting interest from the Scottish Premiership with Neil Lennon’s Celtic side said to be very keen on bringing the 36-year-old to Glasgow.

Although the Englishman left the Goodison Park camp earlier this week, he certainly doesn’t seem ready to hang up his boots just yet.

It has been suggested that the Hoops made an approach to Everton for the Englishman’s signature back in January but it was overturned by the Toffees due to their apparent lack of defensive cover.

The veteran made just 7 appearances for Everton over the whole of the last campaign and although he was given an opportunity to get regular playing time elsewhere during the winter, the Toffees denied him that chance.

His experience will be one of the main points of attraction for any clubs looking to sign him. The defensive qualities he possesses needn’t be questioned and this will translate well in the Premier League transfer market.

One of the other clubs said to be very interested in the veteran defender is Sheffield United. Chris Wilder will be frantically looking to add any Premier League expertise he can find into his Blades side and signing Jagielka would go a long way.

Celtic have their own set of defensive concerns to worry about as well, especially considering that Neil Lennon will be looking prove that the Premiership title could’ve been delivered without the efforts of Brendan Rodgers in the first place.

Having been handed the permanent job, retaining the league title will be seen as a real moment of glory for the Hoops.

Dedryck Boyata’s horror season at Celtic Park has finally come to an end after he was shipped off to Hertha Berlin on a free transfer. Another massive problem that Celtic have to address in the departure of Leicester City loanee Filip Benkovic, who has been one of their standout defensive performers over the course of the season.

Premier League fitness levels are definitely higher than they are in Scotland meaning that Jagielka could find the slower pace quite comfortable.

The Englishman’s long career has seen him play for just two clubs – Sheffield United, where he started his professional career and Everton. After being a proud Toffee for twelve years, the Englishman has finally been released by the Merseyside club.

Considering everything the Englishman has achieved over the years, it’s only right that he finishes his career at a proportionately historic club.
