He defeated Jordan Holm 2 to 0 in the final of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 84 kg category. He competed in the Greco-Roman style 84kg event where he defeated Keitani Graham from the Federated States of Micronesia in the qualification round.
In November 2013, Betts signed a contract with WWE. He was assigned to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida where he adopted the name, Chad Gable. He made his in-ring debut at the NXT house show in Cocoa Beach, Florida on September 5, 2014, defeating Troy McClain.

Gable and Jordan won their first WWE title, the NXT Tag Team Championship, by defeating Dash and Dawson “The Revival.” Chad was drafted to the SmackDown brand in 2016, where he and Jordan defeated The Vaudevillians.
In August, they announced Gable as one of sixteen competitors in the King of the Ring. He went on reach the finals of the tournament but lost to Baron Corbin in the finals on the September 16 episode of Raw. On the October 18 episode of SmackDown, Gable would shorten his name to “Shorty G”
