“Out West I don’t see nobody else” – Charles Oakley picks Steph Curry as runaway MVP this season

Steph Curry has helped the Golden State Warriors to a great start this season and is in the running to be the MVP

Charles Oakley would know a thing or two about MVP talents in the NBA. After all, the former NBA star has played alongside Michael Jordan and had his say on the current MVP race.

the NBA legend was asked if Steph Curry was running away with the MVP award and Oakley was happy to agree with that statement, though he did name another star who was in the running.

“Right now Curry’s running away with it. You know KD [Kevin Durant] is gonna be always in the conversation because of his skill level, he’s so good of a player. Out West I don’t see nobody else. Everybody else is playing more team ball. You can see around the league how scoring is coming down. Everybody’s trying to get more efficiency. They’re trying to build now for later.”

Kevin Durant has been doing a great job with the Brooklyn Nets, but starring in the Western Conference is a different story due to the competition from other teams.

Curry and Durant played together at the Warriors before KD moved to Brooklyn. However, Curry has been on another level this season and has broken several records, some of his own.

The Warriors might have missed out on the Playoffs for two seasons straight, but currently, they have the second best record in the West.

The Warriors to improve further?

While Golden State can think about reaching the post-season if Curry keeps playing like this, they also have another ace up the sleeve.

The downfall of Golden State began when both KD and Klay Thompson picked up serious injuries. Thompson is yet to recover from his, but the other Splash Brother, is slowly regaining fitness and is expected to feature soon.

As of this date, Curry and Durant are tied at 28.6 points-per-game. Curry is average an incredible 5.5 three-pointers made per game, and is improving further.

The performances by Curry is another reason why Oakley believes Dub Nation is the favourite for the title too.

He noted that the team was playing “mid-season” basketball and are “clicking on all cylinders.”

Oakley added that the Warriors were a surprise without Thompson, and it is difficult to see any other team matching the performances of the Warriors, should they continue playing in the same fashion.

Of course, the NBA season is long and is full of surprises. The post-season is another story and as we saw last season, the finals can be contested by any team, if they click into gear.

However, Curry, at the moment, is the best player in the league and there is no doubt who the current No.1 is in the MVP race.

Curry is a three-time NBA champion and two-time MVP, and there is a fantastic chance of him winning more trophies at the end of this campaign.
