Why Chelsea must hijack Liverpool’s pursuit of Alisson Becker
According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea are edging closer to hijacking Liverpool’s deal for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Blues are willing to shell out a fee in the region of £65million to land his services.
The powerful shot-stopper is easily one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. His exploits for the Italian outfit attracted a lot of attention but his performances in the recently concluded World Cup have cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s finest.
The fact that he was chosen as the No.1 for Brazil ahead of Manchester City’s prolific goalkeeper Ederson, speaks volumes of his abilities.
Now, Liverpool are in dire need of a new goalkeeper and that is no secret. Loris Karius’ nightmarish display in Kiev effectively cost the Merseysiders their chances of landing the scintillating Champions League trophy.
The Reds have been pursuing Alisson for a while now but they have failed to make any progress so far. In such a situation, Chelsea must do everything they can to surge ahead of Liverpool and sign Alisson in the ongoing transfer window.
The Blues have Thibaut Courtois as their No.1 right now and it goes without saying that the Belgian is one of the most talented goalkeepers in the Premier League.
However, since the transfer window commenced, he has been linked with joining European champions Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper for the longest time and it looks like they have turned their attention to the Chelsea star. If they succeed in luring Courtois to the La Liga, Chelsea will be left with a major void.
With every passing day, Courtois’ deal with Real Madrid looks increasingly likely. Hence, it is imperative for the Londoners to secure Alisson. After months of uncertainty surrounding the managerial post, Maurizio Sarri has been appointed as the club’s new boss.
Chelsea have been quite inactive in the transfer window so far, meaning it is high time for the former Napoli boss to dive in and strengthen his new team in certain departments.

Liverpool are certainly not in danger of losing Karius anytime soon. In fact, certain reports even suggested that Jurgen Klopp might continue with Karius as the No.1 in the new season as well.
In that case, it seems logical for Chelsea to sign Alisson since they seem to be in dire need of a solid custodian between the sticks – particularly if Courtois exits Stamford Bridge.
