Chelsea keeping tabs on Sebastian Walukiewicz – A good signing?
As per 90min (h/t Football.london), Chelsea are interested in Sebastian Walukiewicz of Cagliari. It is claimed that Manchester United, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Lazio are some of the clubs that are interested in the defender.
Profile
Sebastian Walukiewicz is a 20-year-old Polish centre-back who plays for Serie A side Cagliari. He started his youth career at MKP Gorzow Wielkopolski before moving to Legia Warsaw’s youth setup. Spending the next couple of years in the youth sides, he was sold to Pogon Szczecin while he was in the Legia B side.
In 32 appearances for their senior side, he scored and assisted a goal. He mostly played for their youth side during that time. Cagliari signed him in 2019 but was sent back on loan to Pogon for the remainder of the season.
So far, he has made 21 appearances at Cagliari, assisting once (source – Transfermarkt). He has been a regular part of the Poland youth sides and was recently called up to the senior side.
Will he be a good signing for Chelsea?
For all of Chelsea’s attacking prowess, they leave a lot to be desired at the back. Twice in the league they have conceded 3 goals and they just look vastly disorganised when the opposition make a move. Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori don’t look comfortable at all.
It is clear they need way more than just Thiago Silva lining up at the back. Walukiewicz is starting to make a name for himself in Serie A and is slowly developing into a good centre-back. He can play either as a right-sided defender and in defensive midfield on rare occasions.
Verdict
At this point, Chelsea could really use a young and capable defender alongside Silva. Walukiewicz fits the bill. He is a good young player with a lot of potential.

Chelsea would be wise to make a move for the defender soon as the report suggests rivals Manchester United and more elite European clubs are after him. Walukiewicz is a necessity at this point and would solve one of Chelsea’s glaring issues. He could dovetail well with Silva and give Chelsea some organization at the back.
