According to The Sun, Chelsea have agreed on a £54m deal for RB Leipzig star Timo Werner as he looks set to sign a five-year contract with the Blues.
The Blues were banned from entering the transfer market last summer. Though their ban was halved, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard opted out from signing a player in January. Despite that, the manager has done a decent job. They have maintained themselves at 4th position in the league table.
However, with Werner and several other top players in the squad, let’s take a look at how Chelsea could form a formidable line-up next season
Though the Spaniard has seen a huge dip in form, he remains the first-choice shot-stopper ahead of Willy Caballero. He needs to be at his best next season and regain the manager’s trust.
Cesar Azpilicueta is the experienced one out of the two but James has been in brilliant form since his return from a loan spell. He is likely to replace the Spaniard next season.
The Blues struggled mid-way through the campaign and the major reason for that was the absence of Antonio Rudiger. Since his return, the backline has been stable and the German would undoubtedly be the first choice in the heart of the defence.
The Frenchman has struggled to be on top of his game this season. He hasn’t featured regularly but could be a crucial player for Chelsea next season. He has already won two league titles with the club and more enough experience than Fikayo Tomori.
Alonso’s form in recent months has helped him elevate his game. He was at his best against Tottenham and if he is able to replicate the same form, he is likely to continue at left-back.
One of the best midfielders in the game, Kante has struggled with injuries this season. However, the World Cup winner’s return from the sidelines has been a massive boost to the squad. He is sure to keep his place in Lampard’s starting XI.
The Croatian has been at his best this season alongside Kante and Jorginho. In 25 league games, he has scored 1 goal and 3 assists and has put in several eye-catching displays. He could be a key player for the Blues in the middle of the park.
Mount has been brilliant in his first full season at Stamford Bridge. He looks set to be the future of Chelsea’s creative department. The youngster has already chalked up 6 goals and 5 assists so far and could only get better with experience.
The German international is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline. He is one of the most in-form forwards in Europe and his inclusion would be a massive boost to Chelsea’s attacking unit.
Pulisic has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign but is capable of working wonders from either flank. He would certainly add flair to the Blues attack once he returns fully fit.
The English youngster has been one of the best players in the league this term. He has already scored 13 goals so far and would definitely spearhead their attack.
