Chelsea Opinion: Blues must convince Tammy Abraham to stay

According to a recent report from The Sun, Chelsea could be in for yet another youth exodus in the summer as loanees Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have both been linked with a possible move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig who have been watching the youngsters for an extended period now.

Chelsea faced an alarmingly similar issue in January when prodigious English winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tried to force a way out of the club as Bayern Munich were very keen on the youngster, as suggested by the same report

It has always been complained about the Blues and their philosophy that youth isn’t as big a part of things at Stamford Bridge as they should be. While various top players have fallen through the cracks at Chelsea before, the case with Hudson-Odoi has been taken care of differently.

Since then, Hudson-Odoi has slowly been incorporated into the squad and he even managed to start on the right-flank for the Blues last 2 Premier League games. While he didn’t score a goal, he did notch up an assist which will be just as special considering that it came in his first ever league start for his boyhood club.

Similarly, another player who has been touted for big things in England is Aston Villa’s main man up-front this season – Tammy Abraham. The youngster has been at Chelsea for the longest time and had been given opportunities in the first team over the last couple of years before he was shipped out to Villa earlier in the term.

Tammy is a tall centre-forward who puts his long strides and mammoth leap to excellent use in the opposition box. Quick for a big man, Tammy’s finishing is his main skill and he shows great reactions in the box to win a multitude of 50/50 challenges as well as second balls.

He has really performed inexplicably well for Villa this campaign and right from the opening day of the Championship season, has been the club’s deadliest star. His sharp movements and well-timed runs have been nearly impossible for most defenders to deal with and if it wasn’t for Villa’s pathetic defensive record, they would still be fighting for promotion.

This season, the youngster has certainly stepped up and produced the goods for Villa whenever necessary. His goalscoring figures read 23 goals and 2 assists from 34 league matches which is the 2nd highest in the league as well. Only league-leaders Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki has scored more goals than Tammy this season.

His services could come in extremely handy for the Blues next season as the possibility of a transfer ban being handed to them by the concerned association will put them in a very tight situation. With Gonzalo Higuain not performing up to the mark, Chelsea will have to look for alternatives and considering that they can’t sign anyone, Tammy could be their best bet.
