According to recent reports from Daily Mail, Callum Hudson-Odoi has stated that he will not be rushed into signing a new Chelsea deal. This is despite the injury that he picked up against Burnley which is set to keep him out for at least 6 months, owing to a rather nasty ACL injury.
With the surgery now successfully completed, there will be questions about his future, considering he is guaranteed to be on the sidelines for an extended period of time.
The young Englishman has just around 12 months left on his contract and while the Blues will be eager to get him to a sign a new deal, he has been quite reluctant to do so thus far. Interest from across Europe could be the main factor behind this delay but Chelsea should be looking to go all out to get their man to stay.
Only 18, Hudson-Odoi is an extremely tricky winger, who shows blistering pace with lightning-quick feet. He moves the ball with confidence while he has the ability to pick out passes from long distances as well. Able to time his runs to perfection, his youth allows him to work extra hard off the ball.
He can be an absolute nightmare to defend against because of the constant movement. Never standing in one place, he has done extremely well on the flanks this season and has combined well with the other Chelsea wingers along the course of the campaign.
His trademark curling effort into the top corner is another feature of his game, as he is quite potent in front of the goal too.
He has done well whenever the opportunities have presented themselves. Although he wasn’t preferred by Sarri in the first stage of the season, as the year wore on, the manager began to realise his worth.
More recently, Callum has begun to start a lot more games and his record in the Europa League this season reads 4 goals and 2 assists from 9 appearances, which is an excellent return from an 18-year-old.
Chelsea have looked much fresher with him in the side and with a player like Eden Hazard across him on the other flank, the youngster couldn’t as for more.
As for Chelsea, the footballing gods have been kind enough to give them the gift that is Callum Hudson-Odoi but how they make use of this gift, is completely up to them.
