Chelsea should offload Alvaro Morata and Cesc Fabregas in January
Chelsea hit the ground running under their new manager Maurizio Sarri and strung together an unbeaten run of 12 games in the Premier League which was eventually ended by Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues suffered another humbling against Wolves away from home before returning strongly to end Manchester City’s unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory.
The Blues currently sit 4th in the standings with 37 points from 17 games, 8 points shy of league leaders Liverpool. As things stand, Maurizio Sarri’s men are still in the title race but they need to find a solution to their No.9 woes.
Chelsea need more firepower in their attack to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the title and the Blues will need to spend big to land a marquee signing in January. Here are 2 players that they should offload to streamline their squad and fund moves for new arrivals:-
1. Alvaro Morata
When Chelsea splashed £70million last summer to land the Spaniard from Real Madrid, they would have expected that the 26-year-old would be the ideal long-term solution to their woes.
However, he has largely underwhelmed over the course of his 18 months at Stamford Bridge, scoring 16 goals from 45 appearances in the Premier League. He got off to a bright start last season but finished with a disappointing tally of 11 goals. The Spaniard has netted 5 times this season but he has been too inconsistent to rely upon.
In all honesty, Morata lacks the physicality and the agility to taste success in the Premier League. Not only has he been horrible with his finishing and statuesque with movement but he has also struggled to get into the game and link-up with the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian.
Chelsea need a fiery No.9 to challenge for the title and they have been linked with a £45 million move for Edinson Cavani (h/t Express). Hence, it doesn’t require a rocket scientist to figure out that Morata is the one who is likely to be sacrificed.
2. Cesc Fabregas
The former Arsenal man has been linked with a £10 million move to AC Milan in January as he continues to struggle for regular minutes under Maurizio Sarri.

Fabregas has played only 138 minutes of football in the Premier League this season, which includes just a single start against Wolves. He has featured in the group stages of the Europa League but the Spaniard deserves a lot more first-team involvement in the Premier League.
The arrival of Jorginho has resulted in his slip down the pecking order at the club and Chelsea should cash in on their star to boost their transfer budget.
