Why Chelsea must replace PSG-bound N’Golo Kante with Tanguy NDombele

According to a report by Daily Mail, Chelsea are eyeing Lyon midfielder Tanguy NDombele as a potential replacement for N’Golo Kante. The former Leicester City star has been a force to reckon with for the Blues ever since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

However, lately, there have been several reports linking him to a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain. It might be tough for Kante to reject the move since it would provide him with an opportunity to join a team filled with some of the biggest superstars.

However, if he does choose to move to Paris, Chelsea will be left with a major hole in their squad. As things stand, they have failed to replace Diego Costa so far. And now, with Kante’s future uncertain, the Blues are going through a period of turmoil.

The report further states that PSG are willing to pay a fee in the region of £100m to acquire Kante’s services. And while that is a tidy fee, Chelsea must sign a replacement as soon as possible. To that end, they have been linked with a move for NDombele.

At 21 years of age, NDombele has been a dominant presence in the Ligue 1. It won’t be easy to replace someone of Kante’s calibre but the Lyon sensation seems like a great option for Chelsea.

A defensive midfielder by trade, NDombele excels at making some tough tackles and interceptions to shield the defence. In addition to that, he is also great at supplying some key passes to fuel the attack. All in all, he acts as the perfect link between the attackers and defenders.

As far as his stats are concerned, NDombele scored a solitary goal and provided 7 assists in 50 appearances across competitions last season. With a pass success rate of 88.7%, the player also averaged 2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 0.3 clearances per game.

These numbers go a long way in showing the way he can impact the midfield and if Chelsea do sign him, he could be a great replacement for Kante. Even as the Blues endured a lacklustre campaign last season, the Kante was one of their better performers but moving to PSG will certainly be a great move for his career.

Now, the report also claims that PSG might offer Adrien Rabiot as a part of the deal. While that would soften the blow to a certain extent, Chelsea must go all out to sign NDombele as Kante’s replacement. At 21 years of age, he is certainly a star for the future and he would be a long-term option for the club.
