According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be on the verge of offering their Brazilian winger Willian a new contract in the coming months.
A two-year tenure has been suggested with the Blues set to break their transfer policy again with this move. Prior to the David Luiz extension earlier this month, Chelsea had a strict policy that all players over 30 would only be handed one-year contracts.
Since the trend now seems to be broken it only makes sense to keep on going, especially considering the situation that the Blues find themselves.
With the ongoing transfer embargo, the question of whether or not the transfer ban will actually take effect is the worry of Chelsea fans everywhere. Although nothing decisive seems be have been said about it yet, it will be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end.
Willian turns 31 in about a month but that doesn’t mean that he’s slowed down or lost his touch on the ball. Still very much a Brazilian at heart, the trickster has the ability to burst past defenders before they know what hit them.
He uses these surges of pace to excellent effect as he utilises his body to keep defenders at bay. He is capable of producing some spectacular skills and once he gets into full-flow, he can be very hard to stop.
An excellent reader of play, Willian works tirelessly in midfield and helps track back as well. His defensive efforts in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City can be an example of what he’s capable of at his best, from a defensive sense.
In attack though, he is certainly one of the deadliest finishers in the Premier League. His curling efforts have been a hallmark of all the competitions they have won in the recent past and his contributions can never be questioned.
The Brazilian was signed from Russian outfit Anzhi back in the summer of 2013. The Brazilian international has 63 caps to his name and he’s even registered 8 goals in the famous yellow kit.
His numbers at Chelsea this season are quite impressive too as he notched up 8 goals and 14 assists in all competitions and helped Chelsea triumph over Arsenal in the final of the Europa League as well.

Whether or not Chelsea will be able to replace the ageing stars at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window remains to be seen but it’s quite clear to see that Willian, despite almost being 31, still has a lot to offer.
He’s one of the players who’s been at the club through the good times and the bad and has pulled through and worked his socks off each time, irrespective of the eventual result.
Keeping him at Stamford Bridge is a necessity and the Blues hierarchy must take action now.
