According to a recent report by The Mirror, Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham is said to be interested in returning to Stamford Bridge in an attempt to nail down a place in the Chelsea starting XI for next season.
Although a permanent return to Villa Park could also be on the cards, the fact that he’s performed so well this season should prompt the Blues to retain him.
The youngster has been extremely diplomatic about all the answers he’s given since the end of the season. Not committing completely to either side, it looks like the sign of a player who is still undecided about the path his near future is going to take.
While he has been enjoying being number one at Aston Villa, the possibility of consistently leading the line for a club like Chelsea could be too much for him to pass up on.
A product of the Chelsea academy, Tammy Abraham has been one of the Blues’ highest-rated youth stars of the current crop. He has been given a few first-team opportunities over his career but never enough to really assert himself on the squad.
Now a proven striker, his return will be seen as a massive boost. Despite being only 21, Tammy shows great maturity in difficult situations and he isn’t the kind of striker to give up if things aren’t going his way.
Strong enough to fight things out on the pitch, his finishing abilities have been unparalleled this season. His creativity has been sublime too as he’s certainly been Villa’s overall best player this campaign.
Tammy has had loan spells at Bristol City and Swansea City before he made the switch to Villa Park prior to the start of last season. His 37 league games this season yielded 25 goals and 3 assists.
Although he did go missing in some matches along the mid-point of the campaign, he made sure to come back and fight even harder in the fixture he was involved in.
Chelsea’s potential transfer ban would see their ability to purchase players in the transfer market this summer be rescinded.
The likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Mateo Kovacic – who are both on loan – will have to be kept at Stamford Bridge if they are to challenge for any trophies next season. The fact that they can’t sign a new striker could also mean that Tammy is finally given the chance he deserves.

Despite Higuain’s presence, World Cup-winning striker Olivier Giroud has recently signed a new contract, potentially making him first-choice for next season.
Tammy’s exhilarating numbers have been received well by the Blues faithful at Stamford Bridge and that should be enough to ensure that he is given his due opportunity next season.
