The Argentine Nadia Podoroska will be upbeat after her excellent come-from-behind win against Eugenie Bouchard in the quarterfinals. She faces Linda Fruhvirtova in the semifinals.
The 25-year-old began her Chennai Open campaign with a comprehensive win against Japan’s Kyoka Okamura. Podoroska followed it up with two impressive comeback wins against two favorites in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. In the round of 16, she defeated veteran Tatjana Maria 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
After the grueling match against the German, Podoroski went to war with 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard in the quarterfinals. Podoroska was blown away in the first set and seemed that the result was a foregone conclusion. However, she fought back in the second set and made amends for her disappointing outing in the first set. Podoroski got better as the match progressed and gave Bouchard no chance in the third set. The Argentine star got the win 1-6, 6-4, and 6-2.
The 17-year-old has been very impressive thus far in the competition. After making it to the main draw of a major event for the first time at the US Open, Fruhvirtova has shown a lot of promise to reach her first WTA semifinal.
Fruhvirtova lost the first set in her first match against En-Shuo Liang but came back strongly to win the match. In the round of 16, she made light work of Rebecca Peterson en route to a victory in straight sets. Varvara Gracheva met the teenager from the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. Fruhvirtova once again displayed her talent to the world with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
The head-to-head stands at 0-0 for now as the two players will be facing each other for the first time in the semifinal.
Prediction: Linda Fruhvirtova to win in three sets.
