German qualifier Nicolas Jarry locks horns with Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Chile Open on Friday.
The 27-year-old has been in good form as of late. He has reached consecutive quarterfinals. After being ousted by Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Rio Open last month, Jarry began his Chile Open campaign with a hard-fought win against Juan Pablo Varillas. The match ended 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. Jarry smashed 12 aces in the encounter.
In the round of 16, the Chilean athlete produced a fine display of doggedness to defeat 4th seed, Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2). Jarry fired in 10 aces in the encounter and had a win percentage of 73 on the first serve.
The Munich-born player couldn’t make it to the main draw of the Rio Open but has managed to do so in Chile with some scintillating performances. He made it to the main draw with comfortable wins against Andrea Pellegrino and Carlos Taberner. In the round of 32, Hanfmann eased past Pedro Martinez in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
Hanfmann beat another Spaniard, Roberto Carballes Baena in the round of 16. The first set was tight but Hanfmann bagged it in the tiebreak. The second set saw the 31-year-old dominate Carballes Baena as the former eventually won the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
Nicolas Jarry has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Yannick Hanfmann. Jarry defeated Hanfmann 7-6, 7-6 in the round of 16 of the 2022 Swiss Open.
