3rd seed Sebastian Baez and 6th seed Laslo Djere lock horns in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Chile Open on Friday.
Sebastian Baez
The 22-year-old has been in fine form this season. He has reached his third quarterfinal in 2023. After winning his second ATP title in the Cordoba Open last month, Baez suffered a first-round exit in the Argentina Open. He came back strongly to make it to the quarterfinals of the Rio Open before coming to play in the Chile Open.
After receiving a first-round bye, the Argentine youngster faced home favorite Cristian Garin in the round of 16. Baez produced a dominating performance to win the encounter in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. He had an impressive win percentage of 83 on the first serve. He also wasn’t broken in the entire match.
Laslo Djere
The Serbian star has made it to the quarterfinals of a tournament for the second time in 2023. He opened his campaign against Portuguese veteran Joao Sousa in the first round. The one-sided contest ended 6-3- 6-2 in favor of Djere who had a win percentage of 82 on the first serve and 87 on the second serve. He also hit 6 aces in the tie.
In the round of 16, he smashed 8 aces and saved 5 break points to defeat Riccardo Bonadio in a closely contested two-set battle that ended 7-5, 7-5.
