School

He grew up playing soccer and ice hockey in the Montréal-Nord neighbourhood, but he was poor. At 16, he dropped out of high school and began working as a cook and dishwasher in a St-Hubert restaurant. He was offered a spot on a tournament basketball team in 2012, and he scored 44 points in the tournament final against Max Lanoue, who he claimed couldn’t guard him at all.

Coaches Igor Rwigema and Ibrahim Appiah offered Boucher a spot on Amateur Athletic Union AAU team Alma Academy, where he had previously only played pickup basketball. He accepted a position at the Academy, which assisted inner-city teenagers with few future opportunities in obtaining a high school diploma.

College

Boucher attended New Mexico Junior College for one season, averaging 11.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He then transferred to Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, where he led the team to a 31-5 record and was named NJCAA Player of the Year.

Boucher transferred to Oregon after visiting campus. He chose Oregon over TCU, Minnesota, and Texas Tech.

He worried Ducks coach Dana Altman at the start of his first year at the University of Oregon because of his thin physique, but he made up for it with his energy. On November 16, 2015, Boucher faced Baylor’s Rico Gathers in his second game as a Duck, and he scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

On March 11, 2017, during the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals against California, an opposing player fell awkwardly on Boucher’s leg, but he continued to play and finished with 10 points and four rebounds. An MRI scan the next day revealed a torn ACL, and he was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Professional Career

Boucher could not work out with teams prior to the 2017 NBA Draft due to an injury. He went undrafted, but was signed to a two-way contract by the Golden State Warriors, the same team that purchased a draught pick from the Chicago Bulls to select his Oregon teammate Jordan Bell.

Last he signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Toronto Raptors as a free agent on July 20, 2018. Boucher’s contract was converted to an NBA two-way contract on October 26, 2018.

The Raptors advanced to the NBA Finals in 2019 and defeated Boucher’s former team, the Golden State Warriors. He thus became the only Canadian player to win an NBA championship with the league’s lone Canadian-based franchise.

Again Boucher re-signed with the Raptors for two years and $13.5 million on November 25, 2020. Boucher had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high seven blocks against the San Antonio Spurs on December 26, 2020. Boucher tied a career-high with 25 points against the Charlotte Hornets on January 14, 2021.
