Chris Jericho Confirms Potential Huge AEW Championship Match

Published by

All Elite Wrestling/AEW Champion Chris Jericho took to Instagram to confirm a potentially huge match up for his Championship down the line. ‘Le Champion’ will be appearing at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom event on January 4th/5th at the Tokyo Dome. The event is an annual extravaganza. With some of the best technical wrestling on the planet taking place just days into the new year. The 2020 iteration of the event will be the first ever time that NJPW has held Wrestle Kingdom over two days in the Dome. January 4th was usually the preferred date for the show.

Jericho will be taking on New Japan legend Hiroshi Tanahashi at the event. Earlier this week Tanahashi spoke to Tokyo Sports and made the following comments: “He’s a champion right?” Tanahashi questioned. “All I’m saying is if I beat him and he comes back asking for a rematch. Then I think it’s reasonable to tell him to put the belt up. If that happened it would break down a door.”

Jericho responded to the challenge with the following retort. “What you don’t know is I speak and read perfect Japanese and I read what you said about the Tokyo Dome,” Jericho began. “You said if you can beat me that you would enter the forbidding portal. And request a title shot for the AEW Championship. I thought it’s a great idea. So, ‘Le Champion’ asked the Chairman of the Board. The owner of AEW, Tony Khan, if it was okay to grant your request. And he said ‘yes.’ So, if you can beat me in the Tokyo Dome, I will give you a championship match for the AEW Title.”
